Imperial
Lieutenant Chard R.E. Officer in command. ‘B’ Company 2/24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment commanded by Lieutenant Bromhead together with detachments from the 90th Regiment, the Commissariat, the Army Hospital Corps and the Chaplain’s Department.
Colonial. Natal Mounted Police the NNC and a civilian ferryman.
Total force; 8 Officers. 131 men.
Casualties, Killed, 17 men. Wounded, 1 officer and 8 men.

Zulu
Prince Dabulamanzi, a half-brother of King Cetshwayo, commanded them. The total Zulu force is estimated at 4,000 and consisted of four amabutho, or regiments, the uDloko, uThulwana, iNdlondlo and iNdluyengwe regiments.
Casualties, unknown in total but some 500 bodies were left around the position perimeter, other bodies were found later and all were cremated or buried in three mass graves.
